Laura: The joys of holiday weight gain have hit me. How much do people tend to gain this time of year?
Megan: Most people gain around 2-3 pounds during the holidays from the excess caloric, sugar, and fat intake. Others gain more or less, it all depends on portion control and activity level. The general concept is that 3,500 calories equals 1 pound. Once can easily consume 5,000 or more calories on a Thanksgiving meal alone plus whatever drinks and appetizers they have before, after, and during. This can repeat on Christmas and New Years. It’s the excess that adds up and adds up, then the weight gain sets in. Try to keep it to 1-2 pounds with smarter choices and smaller portions
