Elise: For work we do a weekly breakfast meeting and the choice is pancakes or waffles. I don’t have the willpower to not have anything but which is the better choice?
Megan: In general, waffles tend to be higher in fat and sugar. It all has to do with the batter. The batter for a pancake marks it floppy inside and out but for a waffle the batter makes it crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Waffles require additional oil for this texture. The difference also comes down to what you top either item with. Most people do put fruit and whipped cream on waffles more so than they do on pancakes. My answer is go with a couple pancakes, sugar free syrup or ask for a banana cut up on top to still get that sweet taste of syrup. Making better choices does make a difference.
