Shelly: I like my sweets and I do enjoy dessert at the end of the day. I don’t know that I could just not have sweets entirely, so is it better to have a little a few nights a week or go at it just one time a week and have a lot?
Megan: Sometimes never saying never is a bad idea. Deprivation causes rebellion. To be honest, it really depends on your level of self control. What have you already consumed in that day? I do think that avoiding the bummed out feeling of not having dessert is better than waiting, waiting, waiting, and then gorging. Let’s say you like chocolate, you buy the bag and have a couple a few nights a week versus waiting and having the whole bag at once. The body can handle and burn the sugar much more efficiently when given a better opportunity to over time. We all know what it feels like when we eat really bad and the next day the stomach is upset and you don’t feel yourself. Then the body has to “recover” and try to burn it off when now the task is much more difficult. The nice part is that because you aren’t telling yourself no entirely you can sometimes not even desire the sweet because you know you can have some tomorrow or the next day instead.
