Janessa: I hear different things that eating after a certain time like 6 or 7pm will slow down your weight loss and actually make you gain weight? Is there a certain time of day you should stop eating?
Megan: This recommendation doesn’t need to be followed. You have to take into account what your bed time is too. It isn’t WHEN you eat, rather, it’s WHAT you eat. The food you choose close to bed time should be quality. Many people like to wind down and snack while watching TV to relax. You can easily consume way too many calories if you aren’t watching how much and what you are eating.
As someone who definitely follows a strict meal plan for bodybuilding, I sometimes eat at 8 or 9 pm before bed. I’m having egg whites and a protein shake, not popcorn or dessert. My goals are not compromised. Besides, if you go without food for too long your body does not burn calories. Instead, it conserves calories. Therefore to not eat from 5 pm one day and then not eat until 9 am the next day is a long haul. Your body gets hungry too so don’t starve it and nourish it with quality no matter the time of day.
