Kim: As I have gotten older my balance is not as good. What are some things I can do at home to work on this??

Megan: You definitely want to prevent falls and being independent also makes you feel better. When at home be sure that the area around you is clear of clutter in case you do fall while practicing. Some simple exercises to do at home include standing on one foot for about 30 seconds per side and repeating 3-5 times, walking on a straight line and lining up heel to toe with each step, and then getting up from a seated position in a chair without assistance using your hands or anything. You can do these daily and over time increase the challenge by closing one or two eyes or adding a pad underneath to change the surface. Being proactive is so important.
