Jarred: Falling asleep has been difficult for me so I’m considering melatonin. Is it safe to take?
Megan: Sleep deprivation is certainly not desirable and sleeping pills can become habit forming. Melatonin is meant to be used temporarily just like any medication. Generally it is safe and has little side effects, but that is not to be an all inclusive truth for anyone who has ever used it. Taking less than 10mg a night for no more than 2 weeks is the general recommendation. There are not enough long term studies to verify health problems. It might be considered a safer option, but ask your doctor first.
