Chris: I’m a pizza lover and I try new places all the time and it’s almost a hobby for me at least once or twice a week. I realize pizza is considered junk food but all in all is it really that bad for you?

Megan: Pizza does set you up to increase abdominal fat. The cheese is high in fat and many times the sauce is very high in sodium and even sugar. The fresher the better because highly processed and frozen pizzas are usually higher in the ingredients that lead to heart disease and high cholesterol. Oil is also another troublesome ingredient. The USDA does say that 2 pieces of pizza based on calorie count isn’t that bad for you, but size and type certainly matter. If your toppings are fat filled that’s an additional problem. Plus a slice of Costco pizza compared to Pizza Hut is quite different. Just don’t eat the whole pizza,  have some salad or added vegetables on top and go from there. Pizza by the slice is an even better idea.
