Jessica: They always say take vitamin C when your’re sick to help get better faster. Why is that?

Megan: Vitamin C does support your immune system and when you are deficient you are more susceptible to colds and getting sick. There’s no evidence that taking vitamin C while sick will actually lessen the duration of the cold but it could prevent other complications such as getting pneumonia too. Vitamin C is a nutrient your body needs to stay healthy so it is important to get enough year around. It delivers powerful antioxidants throughout your body which help support free radicals. You want cellular repair to be taking place on time and efficiently for you. So don’t wait after the fact to get enough vitamin C. Because your body doesn’t produce it, try to consume it from whole food sources and if you aren’t getting enough then you can take a supplement.
