Chris: I’ve definitely got arthritis going on in my shoulders and knees which I know happens with age and all the running I’ve done in my lifetime. What are some ways to manage the pain and aches?

Megan: I like to think of arthritis as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz where the joints need some oil. Moving forward, try to avoid repetitive movements that would aggravate the areas. Be physically active because blood flow to the painful areas is a good way to alleviate some pain. That being said, do activities that don’t add stress to the areas such as swimming or biking. Heating pads are also good and try to avoid cold temperatures such as early in the morning when you get out of bed. TThe body is stiff already at that time. Talk to your doctor because the severity of your arthritis could actually be helped by having simple scoping done to the areas to clean out the scar tissue. Keeping a healthy body weight is also recommended so you are not adding pressure to the joints.

If you have a question for Megan email her at everybodysfit@gmail.com and be sure to check out her website www.everybodysfitoceanside.com
