Marie Waldron, State Assemblymember –Many can remember recent San Diego wildfire disasters, including the Cedar, Witch, Cocos, Guejito, and Lilac fires which devastated so much of this region. The North County Fire Protection District, Valley Center Fire Protection District and the Rincon Fire Department each serve communities with designated Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
Ensuring that these three rural districts have the resources they need is critical.
There is a clear need to support our rural fire agencies. This year, in light of the state’s $38 billion budget surplus, I made three funding requests to the Assembly Budget Committee on behalf of our local firefighters.
I am excited to announce that my funding request was approved for $2,660,000. This funding will allow the North County Fire Protection District, Valley Center Fire Protection District, and Rincon Fire Department to replace outdated equipment, upgrade existing facilities, and even build a new fire station in an underserved part of Valley Center.
