Marie Waldron State Assemblymember –I am proud to announce that the Governor has signed three bills that I authored or co-authored so far this year! These bills will help address drought locally, reduce repeat crime in our neighborhoods, and restore tribal lands.

Assembly Bill 692 (AB 692) extends funding deadlines for the Lake Wohlford Dam Seismic Strengthening Project. This will allow time for the City of Escondido to replace the dam with a new structure, restoring this important water source’s storage capacity to 6,500 acre-feet, thereby increasing water supply locally.

Assembly Bill 644 (AB 644) supports a substance use treatment incentive program for parolees from state prison that my bill AB 1304 created. This program will get people into treatment, reduce overdose deaths and help restore lives by lowering repeat crimes and make our communities safer!

Senate Bill 712 (SB 712) requires local governments to evaluate a federally-recognized tribe’s fee-to-trust acquisition application on its merits and prevents unfair evaluation. This bill will make it easier to take land owned by a tribe and transfer it to federal ownership to become a part of the reservation. Trust acquisitions give tribes better opportunities for housing, education, agriculture, hunting, and other activities that are essential to their way of life.

If you would like to learn more about any of these issues or share your perspective, please visit my website here. It is an honor to serve you in the California State Legislature!
