Marie Waldron, State Assemblymember –October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in California, exceeded only by heart disease. This past session, I co-authored Senate Concurrent Resolution 11 (SCR-11), which expresses support for the Cancer Patients’ Bill of Rights. As a state, we need to prioritize timely access to expert care. Read the full Bill of Rights here.

For information regarding scanning and diagnostic services, the Department of Health Care Services’ Cancer Detection and Treatment Branch (CDTB) Every Woman Counts Program has resources available here.

Simply talking about breast cancer and keeping yourself educated is a big step in the right direction. Those battling breast cancer need our support and encouragement now more than ever.
