With the holiday season officially upon us, we are focused on the gift of experiences that foster a distinctive connection between artist and audience. Whether your forte is film, sculpture or music, there’s a memorable arts experience awaiting you this month. All indoor events require masking.

Meet the artists in the Sculpture Garden

Want to know what inspires great art? Here’s your chance! Visit the Carlsbad Sculpture Garden on Saturday, Nov. 6 to experience the Pop-Up Art: Meet the Artists event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Engage in lively conversations with some of the featured artists and take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the outdoor gallery setting, while enjoying live music and refreshments.

Gatsby Gang Jazz Band Saturday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m.

Schulman Auditorium Free admission Enjoy an evening of swing and jazz band inspired by the Roaring 1920s through the Fabulous 1950s. The Gatsby Gang Jazz Band will immerse you in the nostalgic melodies of bygone eras. This event is sponsored by the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation.

Sunday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Food Court at the Carlsbad Village Street Faire
Pop-Up Art: An Interactive Encounter provides the experience of an art project for all ages. Participants will explore the process of envisioning a “scene outside their window” (real, memory or imagined), inspired by the artwork of Brad Maxey, an exhibiting artist in the 2021 Cannon Invitational at the Cannon Art Gallery.

All materials are provided on the day of the event and are free!

Opening reception: Saturday, Nov. 13, 5 – 7 p.m. William D. Cannon Art Gallery Free admission
The talents of five local artists will be showcased in the Cannon Art Gallery, ranging from mixed-media collage and embroidery to landscape painting. Curator Karen McGuire remarked, “Their collective work reflects the diversity and the multi-dimensionality of San Diego County’s art community.” The opening reception of the 2021 Cannon Invitational is sponsored by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.

Nathan Rivera and Jessie Andra Smith are a duo that uniquely blend jazzy folk and blues on resonator guitars and accordions resulting in an interesting interplay between male and female vocals. Their performances not only include unique original music, but stories of their travels and interaction with the audience that make for an unforgettable evening.

International Film Fridays

Enjoy the best of world-wide cinema with selections that have been recognized by critics as representing some of the finest cinema from across the globe. Films are screened with English subtitles at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Schulman Auditorium. Admission is free.

Wednesday Film Series

Features a mix of films screened the last three Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. at the Schulman Auditorium. Includes pre-show introduction and optional post-show discussion. Admission is free.

Carlsbad Sculpture Garden tours now available

Here’s an exciting opportunity to experience an interactive and informative tour of Another Glance: Celebrating 25 Years in the Garden, led by a knowledgeable arts educator from the city’s Cultural Arts Office. Arts Commission Meeting

Thursday, Nov. 4, 6 p.m. The Carlsbad Arts Commission will conduct their monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. This virtual meeting will include the Arts Commission’s workplan and a discussion focused on the community arts grants.
