Vista, CA (July, 2021) — Local Community Advocate and Business Manager Daniel R.F. O’Donnell (Dan O’Donnell) has officially entered the race for the City of Vista’s 4th District City Council Seat.
As a proud citizen in Vista, Dan O’Donnell has already been doing the work to make his Shadowridge community, and Vista as a whole, an even better place to work, live and raise a family. From his Make Shadowridge Sparkle trash clean ups he has organized, to his efforts to save critical community resources like Angel’s Food Pantry and Cupboard, to his frequent appearances at City Council meetings, he has long been doing the work and showing up as a private citizen. O’Donnell enters the race for District 4 with the hopes that he can use the power of the city government to continue to advocate for the community.
“I am a proud citizen of Vista that believes in hard work and building strong community values. I come from of long line of public servants and hardworking people who labored tirelessly to provide for the next generation. It is because of their grit and dedication to the community that I am here today and now, it’s my turn to take up the gauntlet. I believe in the potential of our community and our city. We all share the same goals of safe streets, clean roads and parks, smart investments in infrastructure and better incentives for small businesses. In the end, we all want a place that our families and neighbors can thrive,” says O’Donnell.
O’Donnell’s campaign will focus on many key issues impacting the community. The campaign is examining ways in which the City Council can help to alleviate traffic congestion, create more spaces for small businesses to thrive and implement greater efforts to keep the city clean and safe.
In District 4, O’Donnell is focusing on how to ensure that the development of the property at 650 Sycamore Ave (the old Burlington Coat Factory), upholds community standards and provides a space that enhances the vibrancy of the district and does not exacerbate existing problems. In addition, O’Donnell would like to create a pathway along the creek on Shadowridge for citizens to enjoy. The campaign will focus on creating a better pipeline for skilled labor from training to advocating for development that would provide these lucrative and sustainable jobs locally.
“I will not let Developers influence my actions and I will help us stop overdevelopment of land and create sustainable growth that will have positive and lasting impacts on our communities. We need spaces that are owned by local individuals that allow for family friendly atmosphere while also providing a nice dining experience. We shouldn’t have to go to adjacent communities to enjoy the amenities they offer,” says O’Donnell.
When it comes to housing insecurity, O’Donnell says he “…will work with other communities and build coalitions, so that we can work together to solve the housing insecurity and food insecurity that is afflicting our communities county-wide. I also hope to work with the city, our community, the San Diego County Sheriffs, and local youth groups, to help keep our delinquent and at-risk youth off the streets.”
