Lakeside, CA –Thursday at 3:00 PM, the Associated General Contractors of America, San Diego Chapter, Inc. (AGC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for its East County Headquarters and Apprenticeship Training Center. The ceremony held at 10140 Riverford Road in Lakeside, which is in the center of a growing construction industry hub that stretches across East County. Speakers will include AGC President Steve Friar, AGC Training Trust Chair Thomas L. Brown, and County Supervisor Dianne Jacob.
The 43,600 square foot facility will be dedicated to the advancement of Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility in the construction industry. The new state-of-the-art facility will provide construction services to the 1,100+ AGC member firms throughout San Diego County. These services include continuing construction education, safety services, government affairs, labor relations, and business development, among many more.
The Lakeside location also will serve as one of five training locations for AGC’s Apprenticeship Training Program. This open shop training program is state and federally approved in the crafts of Carpenter, Cement Mason, Drywall Finisher, Drywall Lather, Heavy Equipment Operator, Laborer, and Painter.
East County is already home to many of the contractors and craft workers that build infrastructure for the greater San Diego region. Area schools have well-established Career Technical Education programs in the fields of Construction and Engineering. Either through craft training, or a four-year degree from San Diego State University’s J.R. Filanc Construction Management and Engineering Program, AGC will be well positioned to recruit and train the next generation of leaders in the Construction industry.
The AGC East County Headquarters and Apprenticeship Training Center is scheduled to open for business in the Summer of 2020. The General Contractor is Barnhart-Reese Construction and design is by Ware Malcomb Architects.
