Raises Thousands for Moonlight Arts Programs
Vista, CA — TR Robertson — A crisp summer evening at Vista’s Moonlight Amphitheatre on Saturday saw hundreds of theatre patrons enjoying a chance to mix and mingle and raise funds for the Moonlight Stage Productions and Moonlight Youth Theatre’s arts education programs. As those attending walked through the entrance they were greeted with the sounds of classical music and a display of assorted costumes from previous Moonlight musicals. On display were gowns from My Fair Lady and Sweeney Todd as well as photos from various musicals and a collection of props. The evening proved to be one with an enjoyable dinner, wonderful entertainment, and a chance to take part in both a silent auction of assorted gift baskets and other prizes as well as a live auction where patrons could bid on assorted items.
Kathy Brombacher, Committee Chair for the Gala and Emeritus Producing Artistic Director and her Gala Committee along with the Moonlight Cultural Foundation, had worked for months to put together the Gala which would open Moonlight’s 40th Anniversary season. In a welcome address to the audience, Brombacher thanked those in attendance and the Gala Sponsors and Underwriters, all listed in the program for the evening. Also welcoming those in attendance were Stephen Glaudini, Producing Artistic Director, Colleen Kollar Smith Executive Producer for Moonlight, and Jennifer Bradford, Executive Director of the Moonlight Cultural Foundation. Steven Glaudini, Colleen Kollar Smith and Jennifer Bradford were also the MC’s for the evening. Assisting with the organization of the Gala was Emma Nossal, Development Associate for the Moonlight Cultural Foundation. Various dignitaries attending the Gala included Vista Mayor Judy Ritter, Deputy Mayor Joe Green, 76th District Assembly Member Tasha Boerner Horvath, members of the Moonlight Board of Directors, Miss Vista Pricilla Campos, and numerous others in attendance.
The dinner was catered by Bekkers Catering and included a selection of appetizers, a Kale and Strawberry salad and your choice of Surf and Turf or Vegan Polenta, finished off with a Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake. A selection of table wine was also provided. Several artists performed throughout the Gala. Those that sang various songs from former musicals and songs that featured the coming musical season for 2021 included Bets Malone, Lauren Louis, Jacob Haren, Doug Davis, Randall Hickman, and Bryan Banville. A standing ovation was given for members of the Moonlight Youth Theatre performance of songs from musicals throughout Moonlight’s 40 years of musicals complete with wonderful routines and dances with the songs. Also entertaining the audience was members of the cast for the first musical of the 2021 season, Once on This Island, as they sang and performed a number from the musical.
The Moonlight Cultural Foundation Ovation Award was awarded to Stanley D. Cohen for his contributions to Moonlight productions and his commitment and work as the Stage Manager for numerous Moonlight productions. A video featuring a few Moonlight performers was shown showing their appreciation for Cohen through the years and the inspiration he provided.
John Vaughan was the auctioneer for several live auction prizes available for those in attendance to bid on. Some of the auctioned items raising funds for Moonlight Stage Productions included an Alfresco Fine Dining for 10 provided by Chef Elizabeth Hau, a chance to sit in with Stanley D. Cohen, Resident Stage Manager, during one of the musicals, a weeklong stay at a luxury beach front property in Oceanside, 4 nights in a three-bedroom condo in Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico, and several others. Thousands of dollars were raised during the auction, all ear marked for the continued improvement of the Moonlight Theatre.
The 2021 Season will begin with the premiere of Once on This Island, opening on June 16 followed by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast The Musical, A Chorus Line and On Your Feet, The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan. The 2022 Season will include Memphis, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Ragtime, Kinky Boots and Something Rotten.
Some other Moonlight events set to be offered include Moonlight Movie Night featuring Mamma Mia! On Monday, June 21st. Moonlights 40th Birthday Bash featuring Yachtley Crew in Concert will be held on Friday, July 9th and later in the year Moonlight Angels will host Bravo! And Bon Appetit! to celebrate Moonlights 40th Anniversary. Moonlight Youth Theatre will present The Wizard of Oz running from October 21-30.
