David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Escondido High School-Escondido, CA 9-11-21:  After a previous 31-3 win over Victor Valley Junior College on the facilities of Chick Embry Field at Wilson Stadium at Escondido High School the home also of the Palomar Comets things went in a different direction as they were defeated by Golden West Junior College from Huntington Beach, CA by the same score of 31-3.

The Russlers of Golden West scored their touchdowns on QB Jake Retzlaff who threw for 218 yards total hit Torrance Wiseman (1 reception for 39 yards) for a 20 yard touchdown also scored on 2 touchdown runs of 1 yard each.  Nathaniel Peterson also scored on a 58 yard interception return.

Palomar Head Coach Joe Early:  “When we trailed 14-0 against an outstanding Golden West squad, we made a lot of the mistakes as in timely penalties, our special teams didn’t help us at all when we were hit with a lot of personal fouls,   our offensive line struggled up front which couldn’t get the running game going but defense played well at times but things didn’t go our way tonight.”

Palomar at 1-1 scored their only points with 14:56 left in the game as Rancho Bernardo’s Landon Ogles scored on a 29 yard field goal as they will travel to Chula Vista to take on Southwestern Junior College in a Saturday, September 18 6 PM contest.
