Celebrate the season with two original tales about holiday traditions,
woven together with festive music performed by a multigenerational cast.
Escondido, CA – (December, 2019) Patio Playhouse Community Theater presents Miracles of the Season, a pairing of two one-act musicals with holiday themes, Bubbe and the Mensch on a Quest (written by local playwright and children’s book author, Shari Lyon) and Las Posadas (a
San Diego premiere, written by Deborah Somuano.) Bubbe and the Mensch on a Quest is the sweet and funny story of a Jewish grandmother and a “Mensch on a Bench” who wants to find the heirloom family Menorah. As the children help search for the lost menorah, the grandma guides them all in a series of songs about the story of Chanukah. Las Posadas tells the tale of a band of Christmas carolers who are welcomed into the home of a family after singing for them. As they decorate for the holidays, they share the story of the search for an inn where the baby Jesus could be born. We learn how this search for lodging became the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, a nine-day celebration emphasizing the Biblical message to open our doors and our hearts to the friends we haven’t yet met.
The cast, each one of whom has a role in both plays, includes Eve Angelyne Seguin du Haime (Julia/Julissa), Alexander Guthrie (Travis/Tyler/Joseph), Cassiopeia Guthrie (Narrator/Christina), Jasper Guthrie (Dave), Peyton Jones (Chorus/Mr. Morales), Aeris Keophonexay (Jaclynn/Mary), Cyrus Keophonexay (Mensch/Innkeeper), Skyla Keophonexay (Nashi/Anna), Mia S. Levy (Ella/Elsa), Joyce McHugh (Narrator/Claudia), Eleanor Moreau (Rachel/Melissa), Ashley Perez (Ruth/Bella), Matt Sayre (Chorus/Ruben), and Peggy Schneider (Bubbe/Alice).
