On May 19 Two Young Women from two very different favorite children’s stories meet up in a stage presentation that is a MUST SEE!

If it’s anything like the other performances put on at this amazing school it will be another smash hit. This is a great event for the family and the proceeds go towards keeping theater art alive in the VUSD. Here’s what the school has to say about it:

Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a K-5 magnet school and International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program candidate school that provides weekly classes in drama, dance, art, and music for all students and a theatre, music, dance and art conservatory by audition. The school puts on two plays each year—a musical and a drama—and all proceeds are used to support continuing arts education at the school.

Dorothy pic 1“We have a wonderful group of artistic and enthusiastic students who have been working tirelessly to bring this production together, and we’re very excited to share their talents with the community,” said Michele Earnest, Drama Teacher at Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. Dorothy Meets Alice is a delightful play that appeals to all ages and really gives our kids the chance to shine. Kathy Hughes, the Academy’s Dance Teacher, has choreographed some fantastic original numbers show-casing the Academy Dancers. We hope members of the community will come out to support arts in public schools and enjoy a great evening of theatre and dance.

Joseph Robinette’s “Dorothy Meets Alice” is a madcap mash-up of two of literature’s most memorable stories, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. It is a regular girl’s adventure when she suddenly finds herself in a strange place somewhere between Oz and Wonderland. It becomes her quest to unscramble the stories and steer familiar characters – Alice, Dorothy, the Mad Hatter, the Scarecrow, and the White Rabbit, among others, safe to their homes while avoiding the Wicked Witch and the Red Queen. This hilarious adventuresome romp is filled with laughter, dancing, and surprises at every turn.
