San Diego Musical Theatre is now steaming an energetic and entertaining musical, Jukebox Hero, filled with 14 popular songs from a variety of musicals. The positive musical was filmed in front of a COVID safe small audience at the theatre. The theme of “No matter how bad it gets; anything is possible as long as you have your family and friends” is presented in the 44 minute fast paced musical.

The seven-member cast, many of them having performed in different SDMT productions, were featured both individually and together throughout the musical. The cast included Berto Fernandez, Karyn Overstreet, Bryan Barbarin, Luke Harvey Jacobs, Shirley Johnston, Jennifer Hubilla, and Neil Dale. The musical was produced by Erin & Gary Lewis, conceived and Directed by Neil Dal, and Cinematographer and Production Manager Ron Christopher Jone. Jill Townsend is the Artistic Director.

All the performers had powerful voices and each was featured in the musical. The songs selected for the show included: “I Had a Dream” from Mamma Mia, “No More Tears” from Donna Summer Musical, “Jukebox Hero” written for this musical, “Movin’ Out” from Movin’ Out, “Dark Lady” from The Cher Show, “I Love the Night Life” from Priscilla Queen of the Desert, “Here we Are” from On Your Feet, “Firework” from Moulin Rouge, “MacArthur Park” from Donna Summer Musical, “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge, “Reach Out, I’ll Be Thee” from Motown the Musical, “Conga” from On Your Feet, and “Don’t Stop Believing” from Rock of Ages.

This is a perfect musical for all ages with great performances, memorable songs and a theme that fits today’s world as everyone begins to try and find their way through the world situation we have lived in for over a year. If you enjoy singing along, tapping your feet and a wonderful production, this is the show for you.
