In the Community on Independence Day On July 4th‚ I was honored to give the invocation before the Feast of Freedom outdoor worship service at Casa de Oro Baptist Church in Spring Valley. In times like these‚ it is important to reflect on the blessings of liberty and to ask God to bless our nation‚ our state‚ and all of our elected officials. Thank you to Pastor Bob and his lovely wife Jennifer for inviting me to be a part of your Independence Day celebration! Speaking on freedom at the “Feast for Freedom” at Casa de Oro Baptist Church in Spring Valley Senate Democrats Limit Public Debate on 2nd Amendment Rights Senate Democrats recently passed AB 88‚ which included gun control measures‚ without a policy committee hearing or opportunity for public comments. I spoke out against this attack on our Second Amendment rights on the Senate floor‚ which you can view in the video below.Speaking against AB 88 on the Senate floor. CDTFA Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) will be holding a Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights meeting on Tuesday‚ August 13‚ 2020‚ at 9:30pm via Microsoft Teams. This meeting provides you an opportunity to express your ideas‚ voice your concerns‚ and propose changes to tax and fee programs administered by the CDTFA. DMV Extends Commercial Drivers Licenses The DMV announced that they are issuing an extension through September 30‚ 2020 to all commercial driver licenses‚ learner’s permits‚ endorsements and certificates expiring between March and September 2020. Commercial drivers age 70 or older will receive a paper extension in the mail‚ and drivers 69 and younger will be able to request a free temporary paper extension online. DMV Extends Senior Licenses for One Year The DMV is also providing an automatic one-year extension for drivers 70 years and older with a noncommercial driver’s license expiring between March 1 and December 31‚ 2020. The DMV previously provided 120-day extensions to senior drivers with noncommercial licenses expiring in March through July. While the new extensions are automatic‚ drivers will not receive a new card or paper extension in the mail. As an option‚ drivers can request a free temporary paper extension online beginning July 15 through DMV’s Virtual Field Office to document the extension‚ though it is not needed to drive. Californians with a suspended license are not eligible. For more information‚ you can read the DMV’s news release here. SDG&E Community Resource Centers In the event of a public safety power shut-off‚ SDG&E may activate community resource centers in impacted areas to provide critical supplies such as water‚ shelter‚ and up-to-date information. You can find a list of CRCs near you at their website here. SDG&E Virtual Safety Fair SDG&E will be hosting a series of drive-through wildfire safety fairs in order to provide preparedness information for communities at risk of wildfires. Recovered COVID-19 Plasma Donations Local hospitals are requesting COVID-19 convalescent plasma donations from recovered COVID-19 patients in order to meet the surge in demand. The San Diego Blood Blank has created a form where people can submit their contact information to be qualified for convalescent plasma donation which you can view here. Senator Brian W.
