More CARES Act Stimulus Money Available – Deadline FRIDAY The County Board of Supervisor’s voted yesterday to allocate more CARES Act Stimulus money; each district will receive an additional $1.7 Million. Anyone who has already applied is eligible for additional funds and does not need to take further actions. New Employer Tax Credits IRS Tax credits have been allocated to eligible businesses to offset the financial hardship of paying for sick leave related to COVID-19 under the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA). Eligible employers are entitled to receive a credit in the the full amount of the required sick leave and family leave, plus related health plan expenses and the employer’s share of Medicare tax on the leave, for the period of April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. The refundable credit is applied against certain employment taxes on wages paid to all employees. Eligible employers can reduce federal employment tax deposits in anticipation of the credit. They can also request an advance of the paid sick and family leave credits for any amounts not covered by the reduction in deposits. The advanced payments will be issued by paper check to employers.
Employee Retention Credit Eligible employers can claim the Employee Retention Credit, a refundable tax credit equal to 50 percent of up to $10,000 in qualified wages (including health plan expenses), paid after March 12, 2020 and before January 1, 2021.
Paycheck Protection Program Forgiveness for Loan On October 8, the SBA and Treasury announce a simpler PPP Forgiveness for Loan of $50,000 or less allowing lenders to process forgiveness more swiftly. The New Application does not require calculations. Small business owners are only required to provide supporting documentation showing payment of eligible costs.
U.S. Department of Labor Announcement On September 22, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor (Department) announced a proposed rule addressing how to determine whether a worker is an employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or an independent contractor. The Department seeks comment on all aspects of the proposed rule; comments can be submitted through regulations.gov until 30 days following the publication on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/flsa/2020-independent-contractor-nprm
