What is Harvest CROPS?

By   /  October 15, 2015  /  No Comments

San Diego County, CA – Harvest CROPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to harvest residential fruit with volunteers for the benefit of less fortunate people. A routine residential harvest averages over 500 pounds. One home alone with 40 trees provided 6,000 pounds of lemons. Some homes have 100 to 150 trees.

Each year, the demand for Harvest CROPS is growing, as we provide tax-deductible receipts to residents. At this time, we have harvested over 135,000 pounds of fruit such as, oranges, tangerines, avocados and lemons. At an average of 75 cents a pound, the value of the donation is more than 100,000 dollars.

Fruit that would be abandoned and/or rot is now harvested by volunteers and given to the community in need.

“Thank you for all your hard work and efforts. Our Chaldean community all appreciate you and all your volunteers that provided our refugee families with the fruits you donated at St Michael’s church in El Cajon. We look forward to working with you next season. God Bless you all.”  Ladies of Hope.

Harvest CROPS is asking for your support by visiting our Go Fund Me page and donate at https://www.gofundme.com/harvestcrops and help us raise $40,000 to upgrade our equipment needs. The funds raised will allow us to continue to harvest residential fruit and feed needy families.

We serve three sector groups; (1) Low-income, unemployed and homeless county residents relying on food banks; (2) Homeowners who do not have the ability to harvest nor have the resource to donate their fruit; and (3) Community members seeking positive volunteer opportunities, experiences not only for individuals but for families as well.

“What a great time. I’ve done different types of volunteer events but this is by far the best. I’m partially biased because I love being outside and I don’t mind a little manual labor. Volunteer, Briana K.”

Harvest CROPS is dedicated to help reduce waste food and provide food for needy families in San Diego County. For information about our program and service, please contact Harvest CROPS and get involved.
