Enjoy a tale as old as time in the full-length musical retelling of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, running at Kit Carson Amphitheater Aug. 12 through 27, bringing the late 18th-century classic French fairy tale to life pairing musical favorites from the 1991 Disney movie with special additions designed specifically for the stage. This perennial favorite will be the perfect family summer outing!
Escondido, CA – Patio Playhouse Community Theater is proud to present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, a full-length stage musical based on the smash hit 1991 Disney movie. This dynamic show, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice, and book by Linda Wolverton, tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village. When her father is imprisoned in a castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster cursed by an enchantress. The only way for the Beast to become human once again is if he learns to love and be loved in return… before a magical rose loses all of its petals, trapping him in Beast form forever. The Beast’s enchanted household, populated by such beloved characters as Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip, watch anxiously as Belle and the Beast grow to understand one another. Their feelings grow ever deeper as the clock ticks and petals continue to fall off the enchanted rose – will they confess their love for one another before it is too late?
Cassie Bleher and Kit Fugrad, as Belle and the Beast respectively, aptly lead this beloved musical masterpiece: Bleher’s angelic voice will draw the audience in (she is a stage veteran at only 16 years old!) and Fugrad is a dynamic force that has been recently seen as Javert in Les Miserables at the Avo and as the entertaining Trekkie Monster in last year’s Avenue Q at Coronado Playhouse. Belle and the Beast are joined by a talented 47 member cast which includes Christopher T. Miller as Gaston, Sean Doughty as LeFou, Tyler Jiles as Lumiere, Patrick O’Connor as Cogsworth, Lori Tinkle as Mrs. Potts, and Kristina Larochelle and Brooks Winter as Chip. This show features music by a live 18-piece orchestra and costumes that will have you catching your breath!
