Barb smallHello, my name is Barb.  I have been writing a popular North County blog called Around The Town for the past six years.  I created Around The Town to encourage everyone to get out there and explore our wonderful community.  There are so many gems right under our noses that we have yet to discover and enjoy. I also realize that we all lead busy lives and sometimes it’s good to have a little push and reminder to stop and smell the roses.  North County has plenty of those and I want to help you discover them.  If you are not yet familiar with me or Around The Town, please visit www.barbaroundthetown.com.  There you will find links to a daily blog, ATT’s Facebook page, a list of my favorite North County links and more.  I encourage you to like my Facebook page and sign up for the email blast.

Happily, I have been asked to be a regular contributor at TheVistaPress.com.  I hope to share my discoveries and experiences with you and get you excited about all that North County has to offer.  My angle is going behind the scenes a bit and sharing a little extra about local attractions, events, businesses and their owners.  I look forward to bringing you fresh insights into your community on a regular basis.

Barb’s Hot List for This Weekend:

  1. It’s the last weekend to see Peter Pan at Oceanside’s Star Theatre.  It’s fun for all ages and a feel-good production.  Pan’s lead Olivia Hodson slayed her role as Peter.  What a talent she is and an amazing supporting cast behind her! Choose between evening performances Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday matinees. Just don’t miss out!  There is nothing better than supporting local theater and arts.  www.startheatreco.com
  1. The Music Man is running at one of my very favorite North County gems, Moonlight Amphitheatre.  Be sure to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy a fabulous and unforgettable evening under the stars watching this memorable classic! Bring a jacket in case it gets chilly.  Chairs are provided for you whether you have reserved or lawn seating, which is very convenient.  Just an FYI, Moonlight no longer allows you to bring alcohol into their venue, but it is sold for very reasonable prices onsite.   www.moonlightstage.com
  1. BBQ lovers will want to check out the Vista BBQ Classic in downtown historical Vista on Saturday the 25th from 10am-5pm.  This event promises to delight your taste buds with a variety of meats and sauces.  www.vistabbqclassic.com
  1. Friday the 24th is Carlsbad’s very popular TGIF Concerts in The Park series.  Though the program rotates in various Carlsbad parks, this week it will be at Poinsettia Park from 6-8pm featuring musician Rocky Dawuni.  His music is a mix of reggae, soul and traditional African sounds. So bring your picnics and your beach chairs and get ready for a night of music, dancing and fun.  http://www.carlsbadca.gov/cals/default.asp
  1. It’s the Insect Festival at the beautiful San Diego Botanic Garden July 25th and 26th. Kids will discover all manner of creepies and crawlies at this hands-on, educational event. You can also expect crafting and even tasting (yes, that’s right tasting).  Event is free for members and kids 12 and under and free with paid park admission for all others.  www.sdbgarden.org.

 Have a great weekend!  Barb
