Janessa: Lots of people drink smoothies for breakfast. I’m not one to make a lot of things but are smoothies a good idea for breakfast?
Megan: A smoothie allows you to literally “drink” whole foods. They can be good for on the go and most people do like the way they taste. What really matters is what you are putting in that smoothie. Having a couple cups of fruit and milk is a lot of sugar to start the day, even if it is the natural kind. All nutrients aside, the body still recognizes sugar as sugar. This also means you are going to get hungry again very soon. Something with more protein and greens would be my recommendation. Furthermore, sometimes all the different ingredients can add up to quite a few calories too. The making of and cleaning up of smoothies can be a deterrent for some. As you can see, there are pros and cons. Ultimately, I’d need to know what type of smoothie you want. I have some great recipes in my books, or feel free to run your ideas by me in another email.
