Leon: My friend was just diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, but he didn’t seem like a super unhealthy person to me. Now I’m kind of worried, so what causes chronic kidney disease?
Megan: There are actually a number of causes, but diabetes and high blood pressure are responsible for 2/3 of cases. Kidney stones, enlarged prostate, or repeated urinary tract infections, lupus, and immune diseases can be culprits too. The key is to get regular physicals with your physician to monitor all is well with your body. Your kidneys filter your blood and are part of the urinary tract so always being proactive towards health instead of reacting after the fact, is a better idea. There is not a current cure for kidney disease so better safe than sorry.
