Brian: What’s the difference between a cold and a sinus infection? To me they can be the same.
Megan: I can see why you think a cold and a sinus infection are very similar. This is because both conditions have similar side effects such as body aches, runny nose, fever, and headache. Both can also be managed with rest and medication. However, a sinus infection is a little more serious and can be viral or bacterial. Colds tend to not last as long. You also feel more pressure to the sinuses with an infection. The mucus of a cold is typically more clear compared to the yellowish/green discharge of a sinus infection. A sinus infection can also be a complication of a cold. There are certainly differences and a sinus infection more commonly warrants a trip to the doctor.
