Lynda: I always feel gross after the holidays from the eating and drinking. I’m sure I gain weight but how common is it to gain holiday weight?
Megan: Eating, entertaining and celebrating do bring added calories for many. According to the New England Journal of Medicine most people can manage to stay within 1 pound of their weight. If you have 1 cookie, 1 drink, or 1 serving of the endurance you can usually manage to stay within reason. It’s the excess upon excess that exceeds 3,500 calories to add on the pounds. So I say pick 1 (1 drink or 1 food) if you’re going to splurge that way you aren’t deprived but your being conscious and aware. It’s when we just let loose and pick several that the excess is far too much.
