Jane: When it starts to be fall and winter, the second I step outside my nose starts to run. Why does the cold make my nose run?
Megan: When we breathe in, the cold air travels to our lungs. Our noses warm the air that we breathe in which adds moisture. Cold air irritates the lining of the nasal passage so the nasal glands start to produce even more moisture. The nose is trying to do its job to warm up the air that gets to the lungs. Your immune system is actually working and responding so don’t worry it’s a natural part of changes that take place in our bodies with the seasons.
