Kathy: I’m working on portions and eating less especially with snacking. I’ve been using those 100 calorie packs. Do you think those are a good way to control snacking?

Megan: Portion control is of course difficult and food is probably one of the hardest parts of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We have to eat to live, so we can’t ignore food. We have to face it multiple times a day. The 100 calorie snack packs are convenient and can help you still have some of the snacks you do enjoy but in the one serving size amount. That is, if you only eat one pack and aren’t reaching for another. However, these packs are processed foods which means that they can still be high in sugar, fat, and carbohydrates that really aren’t nutritionally beneficial. Keeping these processed snacks in your diet can lead to still craving sugar, fat, and empty carbohydrates that you are trying to have less of. Having a healthy relationship with food usually goes better when you fuel yourself properly which can help keep blood sugar stable and metabolism functioning efficiently. Consider whole foods such as fruits and vegetables for your snacks.
