Lisa: I love coffee and probably drink a pot or maybe more per day. How much caffeine is too much in a day?
Megan: We used to wonder why our parents loved coffee and had to have it in the morning. Now we know as adults. According to the Mayo Clinic about 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine per day is the safe amount for most adults (those with health concerns or conditions would be the exception). 400 mg is about 4 cups of coffee which would be having 10 cans of Coke (which you should never do) or about 2 energy drinks. That being said, you can use your best judgement for your body and how you feel when you have caffeine and if you have concerns or side effects from too much caffeine, then it’s time to cut back.
