Kim: My friend swears but doing calisthenics for her workouts as being the best way to stay in shape. Why are calisthenics considered a good way to workout?

Megan: Calisthenics are a great way to burn calories and is a type of resistance training that only uses your body. Examples would be pullups, pushups, squats, and lunges. Multiple muscle groups are used at once and require a high amount of movement. If your goal is to lose weight, then calisthenics would be the better choice of exercise versus weight training. Lifting weights doesn’t require as much energy as the movements calisthenics do. However, if your goal is to build muscle and strength, then calisthenics wouldn’t be your number one choice. In the end, it depends what your goal is and what your level of fitness is when coming up with an effective exercise plan for yourself.
