Kris: After a recent trip I took to Europe, I definitely noticed there were far less overweight people compared to the US. Why would that be?
Megan: There are a few answers associated with your observation. There are less fast food chains/places, more real food and much less if any processed food, more public transportation which involves walking or biking, and lower economic inequality making healthy food available to all. People have a lifestyle that is less sedentary and requires being more active just in daily life. Many people don’t even have cars and walk to all locations or walk to the train station that will take them there. Overall, Americans eat more with much bigger portions and sit more. It’s normal to sit and drive places. It’s the healthier lifestyle that makes Europeans have healthier bodyweight compared to the US population.
