Kim: I’m trying to drink 1 gallon of water per day. I’ve been told too much water can mess with your electrolytes and it’s bad for you. How do you know if you’re drinking too much water?

Megan: Over hydrating can be a habit if you never leave the house without water and every time your bottle is empty you refill it. That’s not necessarily a bad habit, but if you’re getting headaches, your urine is completely clear, you don’t feel the urge to use the restroom anymore, you have leakage, you urinate frequently during the night, your lips, hands, and/or feel might swell, and/or you feel tired/fatigued, then maybe you are drinking too much water. Some of these same symptoms can be from not drinking enough. Drinking when you are thirsty and listening to your body communicating this to you, is the best solution. Water is essential, but too much of anything can actually make it no longer a good thing.
