Elizabeth: I need to cut back on sodium and I have. Other than not adding salt, what foods should I avoid that are high in salt that I may not know of?

Megan: Many processed foods are high in sodium, so reading labels is key. Not all foods come out of a package, like when you eat out. Be aware of cured and deli meats, breads, pizza crust, and many breakfast cereals. Canned foods, salad dressings, and soups are also full of salt. You can rinse off the foods from cans first to help with some of the salt that is kept for preservation. Making your own food and eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, is your best bet to avoid as much salt as you can.
