Katie: Seems like so many people put electrolytes in their water? Is it really worth it to do that?

Megan: It is important to keep fluid balance in the body and we do need to stay hydrated for muscles to function at best.  Electrolytes are minerals that help maintain hydration balance with potassium, magnesium, sodium, and chloride. We get most of these from the foods we eat. Drinks with electrolytes might be beneficial to high performing athletes or someone who was ill and might be dehydrated. However, the general population doesn’t necessarily need them. It won’t hurt to add them but watch for added salt and sugar because they’re are often times an ingredient for taste.
