Jerri: For best self-care, how often should you wash your hair??

Megan: There are a few factors that can come into play for hair washing frequency. When you are younger, hair oil glands are more active so you may need to wash your hair more. Hair oil gland activity decreases with age so you don’t have to wash as often for that reason. Fine hair should be washed every other day or everyday, whereas coarse  hair does better with less washes (more like every 5 days). Medium hair can be washed every 2 to 3 days. Activity level can come into play. If you get sweaty with hair you may need to wash your hair more. Hair length sdn type can also factors. Longer hair and curly hair are harder to keep moisture in, so using moisturizing products when washing may be needed more often. Ethnicity can also be considered because of the type of hair. There isn’t an exact answer but most people wash their hair at least twice per week.
