Jenny: At what time of day should you stop eating before you go to bed?
Megan: The ideal target is to finish eating 2 to 3 hours before going to bed. When you lie flat with a full stomach, gravity can no longer help keep stomach acid where it belongs. This increases the risk of acid reflux, heartburn, and nighttime indigestion. Digestion raises your core body temperature and heart rate at the time they need to naturally drop. Digesting a heavy meal late at night can elevate insulin levels, which can impact the nighttime release of growth hormone used for muscle repair, recovery, and cellular maintenance.
