Marie Waldron, State Assemblymember — California is now in the third year of a historic drought. January, February and March, normally California’s wettest months, were the driest in recorded history. The Drought Monitor Map, which provides some of the most up-to-date drought information for the state, shows San Diego and Riverside Counties as living under Moderate to Severe Drought.
While personal water conservation may help our limited water supply last a little longer, more must be done to expand our reserves. We must work hard to ensure California farmers, businesses and residents have access to an abundance of water for generations to come.
Last session, I authored Assembly Bill 692 which extended grant funding to increase Lake Wohlford Dam’s water storage capacity by 6,500 acre-feet. This is just one step towards providing water security for our region and beyond.
