Vista, CA…On Monday, June 27, 2016, The Moonlight Cultural Foundation through the generosity of a group of its donors, was donated a Samick SG140 Baby Grand Piano to the music and theater program of the Boys and Girls Club of Vista.

Present at this presentation was:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Vista, CEO Matt Koumaras.
  • Moonlight Cultural Foundation CEO Toria Watson.
  • Donors Art and Lori Barter (Art is CEO of Datron World Communications), Diana Aaron (representing Datron), and Kathy Brombacher (Moonlight Founder/Artistic Director Emeritus).
  • Children from the Boys and Girls Club.

Not present, but also a donor: the children of the late Muriel and Hans Schiff.

This generous support of the Boys and Girls Club is coming about through the above mentioned donors’ support of its program called the Music Mentorship Program. Each year, as part of the summer musicals produced by Moonlight Stage Productions, area high school orchestra musicians are partnered with a mentor in the Moonlight orchestra. The mentors work with the students on their musicianship as they play in the pit of the Moonlight musicals. The selected young musicians receive a stipend while at the same time gaining an invaluable and rare performance experience.

Matt Koumaras was asked what this gift means to the Vista Boys and Girls Club and the program, and he replied, “It’s an important tie-in to our drama department program so they will now be able to implement music into the drama programs that we offer, and this will be fantastic because we do not have piano included at this time. This will enhance what we are doing and make it even better.”  “We are looking for piano teachers to add to our keyboarding class,” he stated. We have hesitated to include piano because it takes up more space, but with the Baby Grand we will be able to accompany the kids when they are on stage.”

Through the generous support of the Foundation and its donors, they are supporting live musical opportunities that otherwise would not be possible. The Foundation, itself a charitable organization, is thrilled to be able to partner with another charitable organization in the preservation of music education!
