June Key Announcements Independence Day at Home // July 4 // Online // 3:00 PM.. One of our largest community celebrations is our 4th of July Fireworks display and festival. We were really hoping to be able to continue that tradition this year on July 4th, but after many thoughtful and some very difficult discussions, we have concluded that is it just not safe or possible.
As always, the health and safety of our community remains our top priority and for that reason we cannot safely gather as we typically do to celebrate Independence Day. We look forward to sharing this annual tradition with our community next year.

Staff Spotlight Each week we will feature a member of our #Creativity Thrives team who is helping to keep the Center operating and strategizing for our re-opening! Kaila Martinez has worked at the Center for a year and a half, first as an Event Coordinator in Center Sales and later transitioning to Museum Program Assistant. Being part of the Center has been a transformative experience for Kaila, gaining a greater understanding and appreciation for all the behind the scenes work that goes into performances, events, and exhibitions. Of these exposures, her most memorable experience thus far has been the installation process for the museum exhibition, Endangered: Exploring California’s Changing Ecosystems. Being part of the process from beginning to end, Kaila had the opportunity to work with the artists and learn the valuable skill of art-handling, which is a lot more complicated and intense than one would think!
In her free time, Kaila enjoys watching films and reading books centered on social consciousness to nurture her love for history and culture. Exploring new museums, historical sites, and restaurants are a usual facet of life for Kaila, which she looks forward to doing again when our world returns to normal.
In the meantime, Kaila spends quarantine appreciating the good things in life. She has more time to play with her corgi, Sparrow, and has kept up her yoga practice to maintain a healthy mindset. Quarantine has also helped Kaila reinvigorate her passion for writing, in which she reflects on cultural topics and explores new perspectives that foster her sense of creativity.
