Carlsbad City Library holiday closure
In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all library locations will be closed on Monday, May 30.

Grow Your Garden
Carlsbad City Library’s Grow Your Garden program lets you swap succulents, seeds, fruit, vegetables and herbs from your garden with your neighbors and learn new gardening techniques.
Save the date: Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m. to noon Planting for Pollinators with Jay Klopfenstein and the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative.

Exploration HUB
We are excited for you to come in and use the Exploration HUB located at Dove Library! Reserve a self-guided HUB Station where you can do the following:  

  • Digitize home movies or scan old slides, negatives and photos. 
  • Use Adobe Creative Cloud, GameMaker Studio 2 and other apps.  
  • Create and cut designs for DIY projects with the Silhouette Cameo. 
  • Submit your original 3D design for printing on our Dremel 3D45 printer. 
  • Staff are onsite to provide guidance during your session.

Thursday, May 5, noon to 1:30 p.m. Silhouette Cameo: Design a Gift Tag Do you enjoy crafting? Learn how to use the shapes and trace tool in Silhouette Studio software to design a gift tag for any event. We will show you the best practices in choosing a simple clipart image, how to import the file and trace the image. You will cut out the gift tag on cardstock using the Silhouette Cameo cutter. This class is for patrons ages 13 and older who have a valid library card. 

Saturday, May 14, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Adobe InDesign: Create a Business Card Learn a new skill and create a business card by using InDesign’s color and text tools. In this class we will review the whole process of setting up your dimensions, customizing your card, and exporting it for printing. This class is for patrons ages 13 and older who have a valid library card.

Genealogy Services
Ask a Genealogist Whether you’re just getting started in genealogy, or need help breaking down a brick wall, you can “Ask a Genealogist” during a special one-hour appointment with qualified staff at the Georgina Cole Library. Staff will help you navigate the library’s highly regarded print and online resources to answer your specific genealogy questions. Fill out the “Ask a Genealogist” form to get started.

Tuesday, May 24 and May 31, 2 to 4 p.m. Focus On: FamilySearch (in-person)Library Learning Center (3368 Eureka Place)Editing the Family Tree

Learn how to start a tree on FamilySearch.org and add records, photos and memories to document the lives of your ancestors. The class will also cover merging profiles, editing records and answering users’ questions.This hands-on class will be held in the Computer Lab at the Library Learning Center. A Carlsbad City Library card with internet access is required to sign on to a computer. A FamilySearch account is also required. Create a free FamilySearch account before the class.
