Looking to new opportunities in 2021!
Family Open Studios and free art kits, Female Artist lessons, virtual performances, and more
As 2021 makes its debut, this is a great time to revisit a quote from poet Edith Lovejoy Pierce: “We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called ‘Opportunity’ and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” We already know the challenges defining life in 2020 are still with us. Yet, I hope you share my hopefulness for better days ahead. So, in Cultural Arts, we are focused on those opportunities that await us to share new arts experiences with you. As we roll out new virtual programming in the coming months, I encourage you to share your feedback and insights. If you love something, please let us know. If you would like us to explore something new, just drop me a note or give me a call. And, even if one of our offerings did not resonate with you, just let us know. After all, you are our audience and it’s that relationship we deeply value in the New Year and for many years ahead.Richard Schultz Cultural Arts Manager Richard.Schultz@carlsbadca.gov 760-602-2086
Female Artists At-home Lessons

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote, the Arts Education team has created At-Home Art Projects inspired by contemporary female artists from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
Learn a little about each female artist, diverse art styles and enjoy creating a hands-on art project inspired by the artist’s work with materials found in your home.

Have fun designing a whimsical castle creation inspired by artist Mary Blair’s It’s a Small World or a stylized polka dotted pumpkin inspired by Japanese pop artist Yayoi Kusama. Styles and lessons vary.
Explore and experience the artworks of Mary Blair, Faith Ringgold, Magali Lara and many more prominent female artists. Art projects are for all ages!
