Carlsbad Cultural Arts News

October is Arts and Humanities Month “Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin – find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.” ~ Maya Angelou

The City of Carlsbad is celebrating National Arts & Humanities Month throughout the month of October, with many wonderful arts experiences to enjoy! I encourage you to explore the latest exhibit at the Cannon Art Gallery, take a stroll through the city’s Sculpture Garden and take in a performance at the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium. Perhaps your kids would enjoy an art project following a behind the scenes look at a city fire station. However you enjoy the arts in Carlsbad, please know that the city is proud to help foster the community’s connection with visual and performing arts, history, and ultimately, with each other as an affirmation of our shared humanity.

Call for Artists

Veterans Memorial Park Public Art

A national Call for Artists Qualifications was released to recruit potential artists or artist teams to create the permanent public art for the upper plateau of Veterans Memorial Park. Veterans Memorial Park, located near the intersection of Faraday Avenue and Cannon Road, is set to become the city’s largest park once completed and a dedicated place to honor and recognize the nation’s veterans, the first such location in Carlsbad. As part of the development of this new park, a site-specific piece, the public art will serve as a truly special way to honor and evoke the spirit of those who have served our country.
