During November, we recognize and appreciate the cultures, traditions and stories of Native Americans. We invite you to explore these themed collections that include eAudiobooks, eBooks, movies, TV shows, music, comics and magazines.

Whether you could use some help fixing up a bike, repairing holiday lights/displays, or learning the technique of Furoshiki to wrap your holiday gifts, you can save money and help protect the environment at the same time by coming to the Fixit Clinic.

Abundance: The Farmlink Story

Saturday, Dec. 2, 10:30 a.m. and noon Q&A session, 11:30 a.m.

Join us at the Cole Library for a special screening of “Abundance: The Farmlink Story,” an award-winning documentary film. There will be two screenings, one at 10:30 a.m. and a second at noon, with a Q&A session with Owen Dubeck, a founding member of Farmlink and the director of the film, between the two showings at 11:30 a.m. For more details, click here.

Writing with Sound Workshop 

Thursday, Dec. 7, 1 – 3 p.m.

Georgina Cole Library, Community Room, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive

Join Cherie Kephart and Diáne Mandle at the Cole Library for an immersive writing workshop experience. Attendees will hear polytonal sounds and motivational words that will inspire writing.

This event aims to create an atmosphere that stimulates the senses and encourages participants to explore their creative potential. 

Classics Book Club

Joining the Classics Book Club is a great way to catch up with those classic literary titles you’ve always meant to read but have yet to get a chance to. Join us to discuss “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque.

Join us in exploring DNA Interest Groups and research tips with the North San Diego County Genealogical Society. Find out more about the use of DNA testing for genealogical purposes through presentations, including question-and-answer sessions.

Genealogy Partnership Programs with the North San Diego County Genealogical Society

Genealogy partnership programs occur monthly and cover various topics, from research tips to DNA testing. Programs are offered in a hybrid format and are free to attend in-person or virtually.

Exploration HUB

Learn, create and digitize in the Exploration HUB, Carlsbad City Library’s makerspace and memory lab.

Take beginner-level classes on 3D design, Silhouette Cameo, or reserve a HUB Station to convert VHS tapes, Super 8 reels, scan old photos, slides and negatives. We look forward to seeing you in the HUB! 

Photo Scanner Demo Tuesday, Nov. 28, 11 a.m. – noon

Do you have stacks of photos, slides and negatives you want to digitize? Register for this free demonstration on how to use the Epson V850 scanner and software.

Please do not bring your photos, slides and negatives to the class. We will show you how to reserve the equipment so you can convert your memories on a future day.

Digital Conversion Demo:

VHS tapes, Super 8 and more Saturday, Dec. 2, 1 – 2 p.m.Do you have old home movies on VHS tape, Super 8 or 8mm reels, or Hi8 tapes? Register for this free demonstration on using digital conversion equipment to convert your home movies to .mp4 files. 

Please do not bring your home movies to the demo. We will show you how to reserve the equipment so you can convert your memories on a future day.

All Carlsbad City Library locations will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 24. Libraries will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 9 a.m. If you have any questions, please contact the library at 442-339-2049 or email librarian@carlsbadca.gov.

The Friends of the Carlsbad Library is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to raising funds to support Carlsbad City Library programs. Show your support by shopping at the Friends bookstores at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane and Georgina Cole Library.
