Oceanside, CA – Green Oceanside’s annual Earth Day festivities take place on Saturday, April 20from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Libby Lake Park at 424 Calle Montecito. Come join the Green Oceanside team and many other environmentally-focused vendors for an event filled with arts, crafts, music, and activities. Meet the Green Oceanside team and connect with local non-profit groups all centered around sustainability and taking action to preserve and protect our planet.

At the Earth Day Celebration, visitors will be encouraged to become environmental stewards through a variety of games and educational displays. View the Waste Management mini collection truck, spin the Green Oceanside prize wheel, and more!  The Water Utilities Department will also have an educational water trailer onsite to discuss the City’s water system while handing out reusable water bottles. Supporting organizations will be onsite such as ProduceGood, Buena Vista Audubon Society, Friends of El Corazon, Waste Management, Camp Pendleton, Sierra Club, Interfaith Community Services, Vista Community Clinic, along with City Departments like Library and Parks & Recreation. Green Oceanside is also partnering with I Love a Clean San Diego for the 22nd Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup for the largest Earth Week cleanup in San Diego County. Cleanup locations in Oceanside will have giveaways and cleanup supplies, just be sure to bring a reusable water bottle and sunscreen! Visit www.cleansd.org to register in advance.

“We’re excited to host this event in east Oceanside and offer a unique opportunity to bring people together to engage and celebrate Earth Day,” noted Lindsay Leahy, Water Utilities Director.

There are many Oceanside programs and resources that can help you and your family live a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly life. Residents can schedule a free “pick” of their excess backyard produce with ProduceGood to benefit local feeding agencies while also preventing food waste. Those with excess backyard fruit can contact ProduceGood at info@producegood.org. If you’ve opted for California-friendly landscaping, be sure to enter the 2024 WaterSmart Landscape Contest for a chance to win great prizes. For more information, visit www.landscapecontest.com.

The Green Oceanside has arranged to help residents reduce, reuse, and recycle!  Upcoming “Oceanside Donation Weeks” are April 8-19. Call (619) 337-9244 to schedule a donation pickup of up toeight gently- used items. On the scheduled day, residents can leave reusable donations curbside and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will pick them up. Residents can also schedule additional pickups during biannual Landfill weeks from April 22-May 3.

Large items beyond reuse or repair can be picked up five times per year. Call Waste Management at (760) 439-2824 to request a “large item landfill pickup.”
