The City of Oceanside has returned to a Level One Drought Watch thanks to the extraordinary conservation efforts of its customers and the improved water supply conditions statewide. Though this lower level of drought response will replace specific state-mandated restrictions to conserve water, Oceanside will maintain Level One water use efficiency measures to ensure adequate water supplies should drought conditions continue.
While restrictions limiting the days on which lawn watering can occur have been lifted, watering must still be done between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. The City of Oceanside remains committed to water use efficiency and the elimination of wasteful water use such as runoff and over watering, both of which are prohibited and can result in a fine.
“Over the past 3 years of severe drought conditions, residents and businesses in Oceanside have done a tremendous job reducing water use and increasing water use efficiency, and those efforts made a huge impact for our community,” said Cari Dale, Water Utilities Director for the City of Oceanside. “Our deepest thanks go out to all of you as we continue our commitment to conservation and smart water use.  In Oceanside, we realize that conservation isn’t just a number – it’s a way of life.”
The City of Oceanside is further empowering its customers to better manage and monitor their own water use efficiency directly through a new online water use analytics tool and customer portal. The WaterSmart tool provides Oceanside residents with detailed information on water consumption, including data on how the resident’s water use compares to other homes with similar characteristics such as the age of the home, the size, the number of occupants and the amount of irrigatable landscape. The program provides insight into where water is used most within the resident’s home, and customizes recommendations on how to conserve water.
“Just as the State is allowing local cities and districts to self-manage their respective unique water supply conditions, the City of Oceanside is providing customers with a tool that provides a better understanding of their unique water needs – such as how much water they use, how they might be using it and how best to reduce their consumption in the most cost effective ways,” added Dale. “Our hope is that by providing the WaterSmart resource, we enable residents and business owners in the City of Oceanside to always continue to be mindful of the water use not only in their homes but in all aspects of their everyday life.”
More information on the WaterSmart tool is available for customers of the City of Oceanside at www.Oceanside.WaterSmart.com or 760-435-5850.
