Sacramento, CA -The California Department of Housing and Community Development (CDHCD) awarded the City of Vista $1,334,911 million in funds from the Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program. The PLHA program provides financial assistance and allocates 70 percent of the ongoing revenue deposited in the Building Homes and Jobs Trust Fund directly to local governments. Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) issued the following statement:

“Homelessness and the lack of affordable housing have consistently been a top concern for families struggling to grapple with rising rent and mortgage costs. Many are living paycheck to paycheck and homelessness is becoming more widespread in cities across California. The funds awarded by the Department of Housing and Community Development will allow the City of Vista to deliver much needed housing services to its most vulnerable populations. Roughly 224 households will be served by the $1.3 million award. Although this is a great stride forward, there is still much work to be done to alleviate California’s housing crisis.”

The $1.3 million awarded by CDHCD is intended for the operating and capital costs for navigation centers and emergency shelters, and the development of permanent supportive housing. With these funds, city officials estimate 224 households will be assisted. These efforts are part of the City of Vista’s Strategic Plan to Address Homelessness

The Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program provides funding to local governments in California for housing-related projects and programs that assist in addressing the unmet housing needs of their local communities.

Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) represents the 36th Senate District in the California Legislature, which covers South Orange County, North San Diego County, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton
