Agenda Items for May 10 City Council Meeting
The agenda for the May 10 City Council meeting includes the termination of the 2020 COVID-19 emergency declaration, 2023 Regional Transportation Improvement Program update, 2022/23 & 2023/24 fiscal years capital projects overview, small-lot residential development requirements public hearing, and a discussion on a proposed outdoor smoking ban at dining establishments. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at 5:30 pm. Attend the meeting or view it live.
Clean and Safe Program Launches
The City of Vista is excited to announce its Clean and Safe Program which consists of providing a four-person team who will act as ambassadors throughout downtown, the Paseo Santa Fe district, and the Vista Village. The team will clean up litter, report maintenance issues, assist residents and visitors with directions and information, and provide information on local social service providers and service referrals when appropriate to those experiencing homelessness. Our ambassadors will be available Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 10 pm and will work on foot and on bicycles.
Celebrating Public Works Week
“Ready & Resilient” is the theme for this year’s Public Works Week, May 15 – 21. Sponsored by the American Public Works Association, Public Works teams in the US and Canada are celebrated for always being ready to serve their communities and for being resilient in their abilities to overcome everyday challenges in their work. The City appreciates its hardworking Public Works team for all that they do in service of Vista. The City Council will present a proclamation to Public Works at its meeting on May 10.
City Completes Vista Library Makeover
City Facilities staff completed the library makeover project, which included removal of decaying wood overhangs and support columns, patching of all overhang mounting points on the building, replacement of all the exterior lights with LED lighting, painting exterior walls, handrail painting and repair, and installation of canopies over the bookstore and community room entrances. Staff will be installing new bird netting under the main entrance and exterior landscaping in the near future.
|Reminder: Community Update on Homelessness|
City staff will provide the community with an update on its strategic plan to address homelessness on May 11 at 5 pm at North County Lifeline, 200 Michigan Avenue, Vista. The update is open to the public.

|Clean Energy Alliance Membership|
At its May 3 meeting, the City Council discussed joining the Clean Energy Alliance along with the cities of Carlsbad, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Escondido, and San Marcos. A resolution will be taken to the City Council in June 2022 and staff will provide the community with educational workshops.
Information on Political Signage
Did you know that election signs are allowed in certain areas 35 days prior to an election? Due to the primary election on June 7, election signs were permitted starting May 2. For details on requirements and regulations, please see Vista Municipal Code §12.20.080 and Vista Development Code §18.52.060 pertaining to candidate signage throughout the city.
|Parents Night Out This Weekend|
Parents, take the night off! Drop the kids off on Saturday, May 14 from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Jim Porter Recreation Center for four hours of nonstop fun! Then, take the evening to yourself. Recreation staff will provide age-appropriate activities for $15 per child.
|“Memphis The Musical” Opens Wednesday|
The recent Broadway hit, “Memphis The Musical,” kicks off Moonlight’s 41st summer season this Wednesday night through May 28. This will be Moonlight’s biggest summer ever with 5 musicals plus concerts in June and July.
VISTA CONSERVANCY UPGRADES The Vista Conservancy completed upgrades on their property along Vale Terrace Drive to clean up the trail. The Conservancy lifted the tree canopy and improved the trail to prevent the illegal use of the site.
MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY The Civic Center will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30.
